Growth spurt and a surprise!!

If you think children grow fast, baby chicks turn into adult chicks in nanoseconds. Here is a picture of some of our girls (and boys) in late January when they were 3 days old:

Here are some pictures of them now, 4.5 months later:

Spackle, aka ‘Spack’

Here are two pictures of our roosters…yes, loud and obnoxious roosters. They will be returning to the farmer very soon:

Blackie….aka ‘King Rooster’. He would make a great baked chicken, but I can’t do that to my kids. Our chicken man will be getting him back in a few days.

Wellsie…a much nicer rooster, but rooster nonetheless. He will join Blackie in the oven, I mean, for a trip to the chicken man’s backyard.

We have had such a fantastic time with our backyard pets. They are the most curious and intelligent little critters.

AND, guess what?? As I was preparing this post, I heard screaming in the back yard…I ran out the backdoor to see what was going down. To my delight, Callie and Sean were dancing around the yard screaming, “our first egg, our first egg, our first egg!” This post was definitely apropos:

Our very first egg.

Oh, wow! Don’t forget to thank your “girls” for contributing to the groceries! I also understand your thoughts on the roosters! We made certain we did not get any this time. Of course we have 3 batams that are still peeping and not clucking so we don’t know if any might crow. Should any one crow, we will probably invite them in for lunch!! Enjoy the eggs!!
